Dear Mr. Webb,
The "Blue Ridge Place" plan being constricted on lot 20 Chandler's Ridge
subdivision in Harnett County, North Carolina was reviewed to address an
alternative column for the interior support under the 24" LVL garage beam and
the adjacent point load from above.
Analysis revealed the contractor may Stall (3) 2 x 4 jacks under the 24" LVL
with (4) 2 x 4 king studs on the front side and (2) 2 x 4 king studs on the back
side in lieu of the PSL column called for by the original plan. The contractor is
also to install Simpson CS -16 coil straps wrapping around the 2 x 4 composite
column at 24" on center measured vertically. This configuration will provide the
required support for all applied loads.

mono-slab out the additional 4' along with the walls and first floor ceiling ,
framing as shown on the original plan. In lieu of trusses above the extension in
bedroom #3, the contractor may install 2 x 8 ceiling joists spanning Left to right

and spaced at 16" on center. The section of roof above the extension may be
stick - framed using a 2 x 8 ridge with 2 x 6 rafters spaced at 16" on center. This
configuration will provide the required support for all applied loads.

Dear Mt.. Webb,
The `Blue Ridge Place" plan being constructed on lot #20 Chandler's Ridge subdivision in
Harnett County, North Carolina was reviewed to address the stmctural requirements for
extending the keeping room and bedroom 43 an additional 4' out the back of the house.
Analysis revealed the contractor may extend the two rooms by continuing the mono -slab out the
additional 4' along with the walls and first floor ceiling framing as shown on the original plan. I
In lieu of trusses above the extension in bedroom #3, the contractor may install2 x 8 ceiling
Joists spanning left to right and spaced at 16" on center. The section of roof above the extension
maybe stick -framed using a 2 x 8.ridge with 2 x 6 rafters spaced at 16" on center. This
configuration will provide the required support for all applied loads.
A site visit was made to inspect the added footing and slab. Per your inspection before the
addition was poured, two #4 rater were embedded and epoxied into the existing footing and
extended around the perimeter of the footing. Four areas were excavated to determine the
depth, of the footing. All areas with the exception of the left rear corner were found to be
constructed with adequate thickness of 16" or more and will provide the required support for the
loading above. The left rear comer requires the excavation of the soil that apparently caved in
during the pour and replacement with concrete.
The soil was excavated from beneath the footing for a total concrete depth of more than 18" as
required and the excavation was filled with concrete per your pictures emailed on Friday June 4,
2010 after excavating and after pouring the added footing. Review and analysis of the added
footings for the keeping room and bedroom** extensions revealed the footing and slab to be
constructed as required to support all applied loads.
