Re: Foundation Evaluation for Lot 65 Highgrove at Anderson Creek in Spring Lake, North Carolina

Dear Mr. Aiken,
ATC visited the above referenced site to observe and evaluate foundation soils for Lot 65 prior to
construction. At the time of our visit, building pad construction and footing excavation were complete.
Using a % inch diameter steel probe rod, ATC tested soils at bottom of footing elevation. In addition
ATC performed hand auger and Dynamic Cone Penetrometer Testing in accordance with ASTM STP 399
at the four corners of the proposed building. ATC performed DCP testing at 1-foot intervals down to
satisfactory residual soils or a maximum depth of 5 feet below finish pad elevation. Due to previous rains
ATC recommended the contractor remove approximately two inches of soft soil from most of the footings
observed. ATC recommended removing up to six inches of soft soil from the right side of the back
perimeter footing. ATC observed the contractor remove soils as recommended.
Results, at areas and elevations tested after corrections, indicated that soils are satisfactory to support
a foundation designed for a net allowable bearing capacity of 2,000 pounds per square foot (pso.
