Ref: Highgrove Lot 100-364 Highgrove Drive.
Concern has been raised regarding the placement of a 3" plumbing through the web of the 1 -joist
spanning between the back wall of the garage and an LVL approximately T from this wall. A 4"
diameter hole has been installed toward the bottom of the web so as to only approximately 1/16" of the
web is left where the web joins the bottom flange.
I have analyzed the joist assuming a 9" hole (ie full web gone) at this location (see enclosed
calculations). At this location only 8 % of the shear design shear value and 7% of the design bending
value has been utilized. Therefore, the as built location of the plumbing pipe does not adversely impact
the structural performance of the floor system.
