We have enclosed the Joint inspection detail Comtech used in this verification. Note that the plate required on the engineered drawing was a 3" x 5". Comtech actually upsizes this plating condition to a 4" x 4" to ensure adequate tooth holding. As required by IBC NC 2002 and 2006, Comtech is required to maintain a quality inspection process. A portion of the required inspection is enclosed for your information. Please note specifically page 8 highlights. The field inspection performed by Comtech actually used the Tooth Count Method highlighted on page 12-13, which is more thorough than our in-house process and is used to inspect any joint that fails the PPM preliminary inspection. The 1/8 inch gouge in the top chord of the truss does nothing to degrade the #I piece of lumber used in the design of the floor truss. We have enclosed a Truss Technology Bulletin on lumber grades. Please note that the #I grade allows wane as well as a 1" hole. Comtech's inspection verifies that the F03 Floor truss in question meets the criteria specified in Ansi TPI-95 and Ansi TPI-2002 as required by the current North Carolina Building Code. If Comtech can be of further assistance to your deparatment on this or any other truss matter, we encourage you to contact us! Sincerely, Thomas O.
