01262001114, HARNETT COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Minutes of Meeting with Local Legislators January 26, 2001 The Harnett County Board of Commissioners met in special session on Friday, January 26, 2001, in the County Administration Building, 102 East Front Street, Lillington, North Carolina. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss current legislative issues with the County's legislators. Members present: Teddy J. Byrd, Chairman Beatrice Bailey Hill, Vice Chairman Dan B. Andrews Walt Titchener Tim McNeill Legislators present: Senator Oscar Harris Representative Leslie Cox Representative Don Davis Staff present: Neil Emory, County Manager Wm. A. (Tony) Wilder, Assistant County Manager Kay S. Blanchard, Clerk to the Board Chairman Byrd called the meeting to order at 9 a.m. and Representative Davis led the invocation. County Manager Neil Emory led a discussion of current issues affecting Harnett County. The most critical issues discussed included: - William S. Lee Act Amendments - Public Schools/Capital Needs - Alternative Revenue Sources (besides property tax) - Non Attainment Status/EPA Other issues discussed were Human Resources, Senior Citizen Services and Mental Health needs, airport grants, NCACC Legislative Goals, and jail space needs.
