Dear Mr. Lowe:
As requested, engineering representatives of Pyramid Geosciences, Inc. visited the above
referenced site on May 27, 2009 to evaluate existing sub-grade soils within the n .-w building
area, and again on June 4, 2009 and June 8, 2009 to evaluate compacted structural fill material
placed within the limits of the building area.
It is understood that a new single-family dwelling is planned for construction on Lot 273. VAiile
excavating for the new foundations and slab-on-grade construction, unsuitable sut -grade soils
were encountered within the planned structural areas. Existing sub-grade soils were (valuated on
May 27, 2009 by observing conditions encountered in three (3) shallow test pits lots red near the
perimeter of the building footprint area The excavations extended to depth of 2.5 ft., 3.5 fr., and
5.5 ft. below existing grades. The existing surface and sub-grade soils were observed to contain
unacceptable proportions of silt, clay and organic matter.
As recommended, the unsuitable sub-grade soils were removed from the planned building area
and replaced with suitable imported structural fill material. The structural fill r £aterial was
placed and compacted in 8 to 10-in. lifts as recommended to achieve minimum compaction
requirements.
The maximum dry density and optimum moisture content for the sample of m iterial were
determined in accordance with ASTM D 698 Laboratory Compaction Characteristics of Soil
Using Standard Effort. Results of the laboratory tests are attached for reference.

The compacted fill material was evaluated during construction of the building pad by performing
a total of ten (10) field density tests. The field tests were performed using the drive cylinder
method at approximate locations shown on the attached field sketches. Results of the field
density tests are also attached for reference.
Based on our observations as well as the field density and laboratory test results, minimum
compaction requirements were achieved and the compacted structural fill material is considered
to be suitable for g= of the planned construction.
