RESOLUTION
Overhills Estate
Whereas, Harnett County has long been committed to working with Fort Bragg on a
variety of issues; and
Whereas, the relationship between the County and the US Army has grown in a positive
manner since the acquisition of the Overhills Estate by the federal government; and
Whereas the future of this property is important to our County for its role in the training
of our military men and women as well as the place it holds as a historic property in our
community; and
Whereas our Board recognizes that the military is currently assessing the future of this
property.
Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that the Harnett County Board of Commissioners does
hereby endorse the use of the Overhills Estate in a manner that meets the training needs of our
military and at the same time protects and preserves the historic nature of the property. Be it
further resolved that the Board does hereby request that any plan for the property provide for the
restoration of the Donald Ross Golf Course located on the property, as well as the homes and
support buildings associated with the estate. Finally, the Board would ask that every effort be
made to provide for public access to these facilities and the remainder of the estate when
prudent.
