1977/11/21 RESOLUTION HARNETT COUNTY QUALIFIED AS A REDEVELOPMENT AREA UNDER THE PUBLIC WORKS & ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ACT OF 1965RESOLUTION
HARNETT COUNTY
NORTH CAROLINA
WHEREAS, Harnett County, North Carolina qualified as a redevelopment area
under the Public Works and Economic Development Act of 1965, as amended; and
WHEREAS, Harnett County, recognizes the high unemployment rate in Harnett
County; and
WHEREAS, Harnett County recognizes a need to conduct Public Works and other
programs as provided for under the Public Works and Economic Development Act of
1965, as amended; and
WHEREAS, Harnett County Board of Commissioner has examined and duly considered
such Act and the Harnett County Board of Commissioners considers it to be in the
public interest and to its benefit to file a request for designation as a Redevel-
opment Area under said Act, and to authorize other action in connection therewith.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF HARNETT
COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA, that the County requests that it be designated a Redevelop-
ment Area under the provisions of the Public Works and Economic Development Act of
1965, as amended, and hereby expresses intent to take action necessary to develop
an acceptable overall economic development program for Harnett County and to implement
the same to the extent it is approved by the Secretary of Commerce.
Commissioners Stewart made a motion that the Board adopt the foregoing
resolution, Commissioner Brock seconded the motion. Ayes 5 Noes

• Made to governmental unit for wide variety of uses
• Interest free
• Pay back only if county is "de- designated"
"Non- Deterioration Grants"
To governments for community development type programs
Harnett County must submit OEDP and be designated by EDA as a ReDevelopment
Area by December 31, 1977, or else lose eligibility for designation for
several years.
