Box 2268 Sanford, NC 27331 RE: Soil Density Test Results and Subgrade Proofrolling Observations Thrift Shop Olivia Rd. Harnett County, NC Dear Mr. Pace: The following discusses the subgrade proofrolling observations and soil density testing at the above referenced site. On February 2, 2009 a Professional Engineer with Engineering and Environmental Science Company (E2S) observed the proofrolling of the exposed building subgrade. Proofrolling was conducted with a loaded tandem axle dump truck. No rutting or yielding of the subgrade was noted except at the lower ground level of the site (See Figure 1). The yielding area was wet and the subgrade soil consisted of silty CLAY to clayey SILT (CL/ML). With more than 511 of fill required in this area, no undercutting was recommended at the yielding subgrade location. Four (4) density tests were conducted on February 10 and 11, 2009 (Figure 1). Attachment B contains the density test results. At the locations and depths tested, the degree of compaction ranged from 98.0% to 101.6% of Standard Proctor Maximum Dry Density (ASTM-D-698).
