Ross letter January 23, 2009 Mr. Gary Ross 1148 Melody Lane Cameron, NC 28326 Dear Mr. Ross, In response to your question at the January 5, 2009, County Commissioners meeting, I have reviewed the approved plans for Forest Ridge Subdivision. I t appears that Forest Ridge Subdivision was approved in 1989 and I have attached a copy of that approved map. The approved map, which was revised in 1992, shows Melody Lane as the primary street for ingress and egress with a looped road located at the end. This loop was never constructed; therefore Melody Lane is considered a dead-end street. A revised plan submitted in 2005 shows a very similar street pattern to that which was originally approved in 1989. At the end of Melody Lane there is a loop road with four short cul-de-sac streets located off of the “loop”. Typically a street with a single common point of ingress and egress that has a turn around at the end is considered a cul-de-sac. As stated above, currently the street has no turn around and would be considered a dead- end street. As part of the approval process of the revised 2005 plan the County, as a condition of approval, required that the streets be brought up to North Carolina Department of Transportation (NC DOT) standards. All residential subdivisions are required to submit construction plans for streets and drainage to the NC DOT, Division of Highways for review and approval. I would recommend you direct questions pertaining to the minimum design and construction of subdivision roads to the regional NC DOT office at (910) 486-1496. In attempt to better answer your questions pertaining to Forest Ridge Subdivision, I would recommend scheduling a meeting with me or any one of the planners on staff. If you have any additional comments or questions please do not hesitate in contact me at (910) 893-7525. Sincerely, Joseph Jeffries Director of Planning Services Cc: Tony Wilder, Interim County Manager
