HARNETT COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS JOINT MEETING WITH HEALTH BOARD
OCTOBER 11, 1995
The Harnett County Board of Commissioners met in special session,
a joint meeting with the Health Board, on Wednesday, October 11,
1995, in the Commissioners Meeting Room, County Office Building,
Lillington, North Carolina.
Members present: H. L. Sorrell, Jr., Chairman .
Beatrice Bailey Hill, Vice Chairman
Dan B. Andrews
Joseph T. Bowden
Commissioner Titchener was absent due to attending the Lee-
Harnett Mental Health Board meeting.
Staff present: Neil Emory, County Manager
Wm. A. (Tony) Wilder, Assistant County Manager
Kay S. Blanchard, Clerk to the Board
Chairman Sorrell called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
Graham Byrd, Environmental Health Supervisor, reported on
activities of the Environmental Health section.
The Board members discussed expanding services of the Dunn Office
of the Health Department and the need to keep health services
close to the people.
The Board members discussed concerns with animal control in
Harnett County and possible solutions. No action was taken.
The subject of nurses' salaries was discussed and it was noted
that the Board of Commissioners have agreed to review the
salaries when input is received from the State.
Health Director Henry Thompson reported that the veterinarian who
currently administers an injection to dogs that must be disposed .
of is concerned with the outbreak of rabies and does not want to
expose herself or staff to a possible rabid animal. At this time
injection administered by a veterinarian is the only form of
euthanasia available to the County.
Pat McKee, Nursing Supervisor, and Angela Scurry, Nutrition
Program Director, reported on the following items:
- Flu shots are available at the Health Department.
- Grant received from Duke Endowment for HelpNet
- Health Education in schools regarding sexual transmitted
diseases and adolescent pregnancy
There being no further business, the Harnett County Board of
Commissioners meeting in joint session with the Health Board duly
adjourned at 9:10 p.m.
